Woodrow Studios Backdrop Licence

Thank you for choosing a Woodrow Studios backdrop. Every backdrop is individually designed and hand-finished, and I'm delighted to see them become part of your creative work.

What you’re welcome to do

When you purchase a Woodrow Studios backdrop, you’re free to:

  • Use it for personal or commercial photography and video.
  • Photograph products, food, portraits and other creative work for clients.
  • Use your images in advertising, social media, websites, books, magazines and other marketing materials.
  • Edit your photographs using any standard editing software, including AI-assisted tools such as Generative Fill, Generative Expand, object removal, background cleanup and colour grading.

In short, if you’re creating photographs or video using the backdrop as intended, you’re welcome to use those images however your business requires.

What isn’t permitted

My backdrops are original artworks and remain the intellectual property of Woodrow Studios. To protect that work, please do not:

  • Scan, photograph or digitise a backdrop for the purpose of creating a reusable digital version.
  • Reproduce, print or manufacture copies of a Woodrow Studios backdrop.
  • Create digital textures, overlays, printable files or backdrop libraries derived from our designs.
  • Use our backdrops, or high-resolution images of them, to train, fine-tune or develop AI or machine learning models intended to recreate or imitate our designs.
  • Create or sell products that copy, closely imitate or are derived from Woodrow Studios backdrops.
  • Resell, licence or distribute the backdrop design in any digital or physical form.

A note about AI

I recognise that AI-assisted editing has become part of many photographers’ workflows including my own, and I have no issue with responsible use of these tools when editing your own photographs (You'll even find a blog post about generative fill on my website!)

What I don’t want is people using my backdrop designs as source material for creating competing products, digital assets or AI systems capable of reproducing my work. Whilst it may be an AI that does this task, it is a human that sets the task.
