Custom Canvas Commissions for Portrait Photography and Film
As you may, or may not know, I've relocated my backdrop studio from the East Midlands in the UK, back to my home county of North Yorkshire this summer!
As well as move my studio half way across the country, In the same month I also got married ❤️, honeymooned, moved home, relocated kids schools & various pets up north with us, sent children off to uni and somehow kept on top of my orders... I don't often talk about my ASD, but lets just say, chaos and change are not my favourite things! But as Autumn gets into full swing and the dust is settling, I'm feeling very lucky we seized the opportunity to take this big life move.
At some point during the whirlwind of this Summer I received a message from a customer, a lovely person and BAFTA award winning director who many months previously had commissioned a series of bespoke canvases from me for a project he was putting together in Japan.
He kindly sent me a series of 'behind the scenes' images and a link this new documentary 'Atomic People'
I always love to see where my backdrops and canvases end up, but his documentary is utterly sobering and such an important piece of work conceived and directed by Benedict Sanderson, collecting testimonies of the last few survivors of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. To be commissioned for the sets of such profound a documentary was utterly humbling, I thoroughly recommend viewing here if you have the chance.
My new studio is now in full swing, a large barn space on the family farm I grew up on and I'm planning on focusing more on these larger portraiture canvases now I have the space, (my last studio, although it served me brilliantly for 6 years now feels ridiculously small)
Cost wise, I totally get that hand painted canvases are a huge investment. So I'm looking at creating a product range that will be available for both sale and hire in the near future, hopefully a useful service for photographers in need of affordable yet also unique hand crafted backdrops for one off shoots.
